Waggin' Tails Miniature Dachshunds

"Saving just one dog won't change the world

but it surely will change the world for that one dog."

Our home has never been without rescue dogs and over the years we have taken in 41 unwanted dogs. A few were purebred but most were mixed breeds from dog pounds, SPCA's, humane societies, rescue leagues, and vets & groomers (dogs which were abandoned at vet clinics and grooming businesses), and we loved them just as dearly as our Dachshunds and Danes. They all became beloved members of our family and stayed with us their entire lives. Pictures of them all are on our living room wall.  We currently have (indoor) 8 rescue cats.

Rescue purebreds and mixed breeds make wonderful "brothers" and "sisters" for Dachshunds. If you can find it in your heart - please do consider a rescue dog as an additional family member.

Below was one of our rescue dogs, Sir Dudley DoRight ("Dewey" for short). He was found abandoned, sick and starving, at a construction site and brought to our home. He spent 15 years with us and was one of the best "big brothers" our Dachshunds had. We miss him very much.

All of our beloved dogs - rescues and purebreds - left their pawprints on our hearts.

From Leilani's Mom:

"I once heard a story of a man and his dog walking.  They walked for quite a while and come upon a beautiful farm.  Everything was brand new, beautiful, shiny and looked very inviting!  The man notices a spigot and a well dressed man standing next to it.  He asked where they were.  The man responded "Heaven."  The man asked if he and his dog could have a drink because they were very thirsty from walking many miles.  The man responded, "Yes, but only you.  Dogs are not permitted to drink."  The man thanked him for his time and walked on.  They walked many miles more and come upon another farm.  This farm was nice but looked well used.  Again there was a man standing next to a spigot.  This man was in overalls and the spigot looked older and a little rusty.  The man asked if they could have a drink of water.  The man in overalls  answered "Yes."  The man asked if his dog could also have a drink.  The man in overalls  answers "Yes."  The man asks where they were.  The man in overalls answers "Heaven."  The man said "We just passed a beautiful farm miles back and there was a man there who said THAT was Heaven."  The man in overalls answered "I know. That was a test to see who would leave their friends behind.

"I thought that was sweet.  Sadly many people would flunk that test."
