Ortrud Hexengold (brindle) (CH Dolf vd Saalburg x Klio Hexengold) Born April 3, 1932. Breeder/Owner: Carl Narbe, Hanau am Main. Ortrud was among a litter of 8 pups – despite the new rules demanding culling to six. Dam of 6 Hexengold litters. One litter of Ortrud’s (Hexengold’s “S” litter sired by Tyras v Birkenhof) contained 9 pups (in spite of the rule for culling any more than 6. Tyras & Ortrud were the parents of both the Hexengold “S” & “T” litters – which were linebreeding that doubled heavily on all the great Saalburg danes. Ortrud. Ortrud’s third litter was sired by another Kalandus son, Aodh vd Irminsul and there were eight “U” pups registered. Perhaps the reason the “extra” pups were allowed might be inferred from Carle Narbe’s forward in the studbooks covering 1934-35: “The present Vol. XIX (19) of the Studbook contains, in contrast to its predecessors, only 1800 regisrations. This fact, and further, that several months more were necessary to collect this number than to collect 2000 in previous years, proves that breeding of Danes has diminished quite substantially.” On June 7, 1936, the Hexengold “V” litter of eight was whelped (this was the fourth for CH Ortrud and the sire was Zorn v Birkenhof). Ortrud’s 5th litter was whelped on June 5, 1937 – this was the “Z” litter of six (including Zeus Hexengold) sired by Cathal vd Irminsul. Ortrud’s sixth and last litter was whelped December 30, 1937, an “A” litter of four, three brindles and a fawn sired by Arras vd Wartburgstadt.
CH Osceola Neverzell (golden brindle) (Caesar x Bella) Imported in 1880s from Germany to Osceola Kennels, Wisconsin. Neverzell was bred to both CH Don Caesar and the Earl of Wurenburg, and pups from both litters were found frequently in early AKC and CKC registrations.
