Where did Dachshunds come from?
The Creator wrapped up a laugh, a rainbow and a soulmate into one little package with a long body, short legs and large ears - and thus was born the Dachshund.
A long body to hold his huge, loving heart. Long legs were not necessary, because he would never be very far from his owner. Large ears to hear his owner's every word - spoken and unspoken.
A Message to the Waggin' Tails Family
We would like to express our gratitude to all the wonderful homes and to thank you for the updates and pictures; we can't tell you how happy it makes us, watching our little ones growing up in their new homes.
We would also like to invite any of the Waggin' Tails homes to feel free to contribute to any page on the website. Tips and suggestions are always welcome on the "Puppy Proofing," "Housetraining," "Obedience" and "Separation Anxiety" pages. Your personal experiences would be treasured on the "Bringing Puppy Home," and "One Puppy, or Two?" pages.
We would especially love to have stories of very special family pets who have passed away on the "Losing a Beloved Pet" page. To us, there is nothing more beautiful on earth than seeing the loving bond between a beloved pet and his/her owner. It is indeed true that "Until one has loved an animal, part of their soul remains unawakened." These wonderful pets were integral family members and they changed their owners' lives. Their stories need to be told.
To those who have already contributed, a big and heartfelt THANK YOU!
Our Moms and babies are kept super clean and comfortable on huge, soft comforters topped with fleece blankets in our bedroom.
Our Moms and babies are NEVER, EVER in a crate.
Solid Colors:
Piebald (aka Pied, Pie):
Dapple:
ALL of our kids, purebreds and rescues, live with us in our home; they have full run of every room in the house. They are NOT kept in any kennel, crate, cage, laundry room, basement, garage, shed, 'separate room' or 'separate building.' They are our family and live with us 24/7.
ALL the breeding Dachshunds in our home have been raised by us from the time they were babies; and we have an intimate knowledge of each Dachshund's puppyhood, upbringing, care, nutrition, medical treatment, physical and emotional growth, personality, etc.
We do not EVER purchase adult dogs to breed. We do NOT breed any of our girls to outside stud dogs. We do NOT sell puppies for other breeders. We do NOT breed any other kind of dog, Dachshunds and Diamond Doves are it.
And guess what happens to our 'retired' dogs? They are spayed/neutered and STAY HERE, spending the rest of their lives in our home and among the loving family they grew up with. Their roles switch from being Moms & Dads to being Grandmothers & Grandfathers, and they help to raise the new little baby puppies. Each and every dog is a beloved family member and spends his/her whole life in our home - we NEVER 'rehome' or 'sell' any of our adult dogs.
We have two handsome men for our ladies, both are dual registered with the AKC & CKC and both have DNA profiles with the AKC.
Our babies are not sent home with the mass-produced "one size fits all" puppy packets & samples which breeders get from the larger dog food manufacturers and the AKC. They are sent home with the below:
Each puppy is placed with:
Full or limited AKC or CKC registration.
A one year Health Guarantee.
A Contract to help ensure that the puppy will go to a loving, responsible and lifetime-committed home.
Health Record detailing each vaccination & worming received.
A "Further Necessities" sheet detailing exact vaccinations, wormings, procedures, etc. that the puppy will need done in the following year, that the new owner can just hand to the vet.
"Special Instruction" sheets which are tailored specifically for the individual puppy and the family he/she will be going to; detailing feeding, monitoring physical and emotional growth, playing, introducing puppy to other family pet members, etc.
"Developmental Period" sheet, which details the exact physical, mental and emotional developmental periods the puppy has gone/will go through from birth to 12 weeks.
Baby pictures of the puppy from birth, and taken weekly until he/she is ready to go home.
A baby blanket with the mother's and siblings' scent for emotional comfort in the new home.
A page of his/her own on the website which will have pictures of the puppy from birth thru it's new home.
Dry kibble and Goat's Milk to make "Puppy Mush."
A container of Puppy Mush already made up.
100% US made Merrick Snozzle treat for the puppy and his new canine siblings.
Pee Pads, Paper Towels & Trash bag for the trip home.
We also include a 70-page information booklet with the topics:
1) The ONLY airline we will allow our puppies to fly on (and only in-cabin with their new owners) is Southwest - who now allow folks to carry on pets. ALL their planes are the same, so you won't run into the problem of an Airline assuring you that your crate will fit beneath the seat of your scheduled flight, and then at the last minute switch to a different type of aircraft - where the crate won't fit - and then boot you off the plane with your pet (this happened with Delta - the turkeys).
We do not recommend Delta Airlines, in any case. Hubby travels frequently, and they are - hands down - the very worst airline of all. Coming back from Louisiana on a business trip, he arrived at the airport to find that Delta had cancelled his flight home; reason = "Crews' time exceeded." Having no idea what that meant, I called them. Evidently a plane crew are only allowed to fly a certain number of hours per month. This particular crew had reached their allotted air time and so the flight was cancelled - stranding a whole plane full of passengers at the airport. The passengers were NOT put on any other flight and were stranded overnight in Louisiana; Delta didn't even pick up the tabs for their hotels or meals - or make any arrangements whatsoever. Can you imagine traveling with a little puppy and having this happen to you? Being stranded overnight in a strange place and not being able to find a hotel that accepts pets?
2) The ONLY Pet Ground Transportation service we have approved is "Royal Paws" a nationwide ground transportation service (I believe they also transport puppies to Canada). The puppy is transported by extremely caring drivers who are devoted pet owners themselves. It's a personal service which picks the puppy up and delivers her/him straight to you; the puppy is not kenneled or transported with any other animal. However, Royal Paws WILL allow puppies from the same litter to travel together and deliver them to different homes - in which case, the cost of transportation can be split among the new owners. I am not affiliated with this company in any way, I only learned about them from new puppy owners.
To visit Royal Paws website: Click HERE
We do not arrange shipping, preferring that the owners pick the puppies up themselves. However, if the new owners wish to arrange transportation within the guidelines of 1) or 2) above, that is fine.
PLEASE do not ask us to ship puppies outside of the guidelines above. To see the reasons why we do not ship - see the page "Why We Don't Ship."
We provide lifetime support for our puppies and want their new owners to love them as much as we do. Please understand that we want the best possible homes and will screen applicants thoroughly.
We would like to thank you for stopping by. Our website is constantly being added to and updated and we hope that you will come back to visit.
Best regards from both of us.

Would you like to be notified if we have a new litter?
Please fill out the form on the "Contact Us" page, and ask to be put on the waiting list.
Filling out the application form and being placed on the waiting list requires absolutely no commitment (or cost) on your part at all. It is simply a method to make things a bit easier for me when I do have puppies. I can contact already-approved homes without having to do a lot of interviewing - which is time consuming, especially when I have puppies to take care of.
There is NO obligation on the approved family's part to take a puppy; and not choosing one does not lower their placement on the waiting list. Whenever I have puppies, I contact folks on the waiting list in turn, and they get to choose a puppy (or not choose one, if they like). Some folks prefer to wait for a certain color or pattern or sex from a future litter. And if a family decides on a puppy from another breeder - that's no problem at all; just let me know so I can remove your name from the list.
I do not accept any deposit until a family sees a puppy that they definitely want, I NEVER charge folks who want to be on a waiting list. And if and when they see a puppy they want, I require a $100 deposit for me to hold the puppy for them until the puppy is 8 weeks old. The deposit is deducted from the total price of the puppy, and the remainder is paid when the family comes over to take the puppy home.
NO obligation on your part at all to be on the waiting list. It just makes it easier for me to offer puppies to homes that I've already approved.
